I don't really ever review a place but I really wanted to for this spot.
Food: 4/5 the food is pretty decent. Decent portions but the pricing on the spam musubi is a bit much. Chicken katsu was a bit over fried and the short ribs needed a bit more of a char.
Service: 10/5 basically the reason why I wanted to give a review. First off there's a sign on the bathroom that they only allow customers who spent money that day to use the bathroom. I'm assuming something went down before so they had to put up the sign. Some homeless guy who obviously didn't buy anything asked to use the bathroom and they let him. He then floods the whole bathroom by overflowing the sink.
Another thing is that I dropped my air pods and one of the employees grabbed em for me.
Keep up the good work!! -

I'm on the hunt for Hawaiian food in SJ. When I found out that Hawaiian Drive Inn was close by I had to pull up. The menu is full of Hawaiian classic including chicken katsui, loco moco, short rib, spam musubi and they even have shaved ice. There is an okay sized dining room for eat in. You can do different combinations of meats, I went with the chicken katsui and the short ribs. The portion sizes are pretty big and you get a good value. The short ribs were pretty good although not piping hot. The chicken katsui wasn't bad and they give you a lot of the meats. The meal also comes with the pasta salad. I ordered a chicken musubi which was also pretty big. I thought it could've used some furikake and the seaweed wasn't as crisp as I like but I still enjoyed it. Hawaiian food is like comfort food, you want big portions with good flavor and that's what you get at the Hawaiian drive in...it still didn't compare to the food I had in Maui but it did fill me up.
* I saw that they also serve malasadas in orders of 6 or something like that...I'd be interested in trying those fresh with a cup of coffee. Not sure if they serve Kona here but if they do hopefully it's 100% kona and not some sort of blend. -

Hawaiian Drive Inn has been a go-to spot for my family and I for years.
We usually get their Hawaiian BBQ Chicken or Chicken Katsu which comes with rice, macaroni salad, and their dipping sauce. The portions are always filling for me! I like how they give you the option to order a mini or regular size too. If I want something quick and small, I usually get one of their spam musubis. I've also tried their bibimbap which I thought was good too. They have a variety of drinks to choose from their drinks machine and fridge as well.
This place a good place to order take-out food but there's also plenty of seating too if you're looking to dine in too! -

Love coming here when I'm craving Hawaiian food! I normally order the Chicken Katsu from here, which comes with two scoops of rice, maccaroni salad, chicken katsu, side salad, and katsu sauce.
Like any other Hawaiian place, their portions are humongous. I always end up having leftovers to bring home for the next day.
I really enjoy their Katsu Musubi and Spam Musubi as well. Sometimes I order the Loco Moco, which is also great. Their side of fries is also huge. Easy to share, and it costs $3. I ask for a side of gravy as well - tastes amazing together. It's nice of them to provide the gravy free of charge.
The interior is somewhat dated, but they keep their location clean. There is a parking lot, but the lot can get really full at times. Menu is pretty extensive, so there are options for everyone.
Employees are super nice and very helpful!
Overall, really great place with great food. -
